Spoiling the Senses

First reflecting on the storm of images* that is now part of our daily life here and the next day participating in it here, surrendering to it. Spoiling the senses with images, sounds, movement, taste and even smell**.

This was the end of my birthdayweek. Not a bad start.

One of the most beautiful things me and my sister saw here, was the exhibition 'heads' of Kiki Lamers. I just keep looking at it.

Theatre

My brother came over tonight and we decided to go to the theatre! ( I watch a lot of theatre-related programs but I hardly ever go somehow) The play was repulsive, intens and impressive. An experience..
I have all kinds of thoughts about the play. And acting. And I would have loved to share them if it wasn't as hot here as the desert was in the end of the play! A cold shower and my bed is all I can think of right now.

Corner View: Typical Architecture in your City

Being a daughter and once in a while employee of an architect, I think quite often about architecture. Recently I've been helping out with a slogan and commercial text. I had to answer the question for myself what is architecture about? About people and about space. We all need a little personal territory where we are protected from sun, rain, cold and warmth, and ..from (the eyes of) others. (Otherwise our walls could be transparant:). It's so interesting that architecture is so different around the world. Because of the different circumstances they were created in and different ideas about aestetics. In the circle around my house I have a great mix of very old en new architecture. I enjoy it a lot. Hope you do too.

One year without

Last night I watched the documentary 'One Year Without Oil', about a family that goes on an oil diet for one year. I find people documentaries often so inspiring that I watch them with my notebook on my lap. I would really recommend this one. Not that I am so tremendously envrironmentally conscious, but because its so well made. It's the psychology of changing habits, it's the amazing wisdom of young children, it's the setting (Finland) and going back to the basics (which they are forced to do, like making their own toothpaste and hair gel), it's about ideals and the price we are willing to pay for them and oh ... its about the environment too of course.

Art house movie, cute cafe, hot choclate and a beer; the start of my weekend. I already knew I liked my new hometown by day. But its even prettier by night.
