Connecting the Dots

I am working on a short art course that I will be teaching. This made me ask myself what it is about making stuff I enjoy the most and how my creative activities are described the best. My art (or the things I make) for me is a product of living a creative live. Of being playfull, of being conscious of the world and beauty around me and the constant wish to not just live life, but to design life. Even better than an end-product for me are my little books of notes, drawings, quotes & souvenirs I've been keeping since I was a child. A few months ago I discovered there is not only a name  for the thing I've been doing so long,  but that there is even a whole (very inspiring) scene out there! And -as always when you discover something- I can't believe I never heard of it before. I am talking about art journaling, also described as creative of visual journaling. I feel like this is the connecting the dots that have been floating through my mind for some time now. A very good feeling :) What about you? Do you do any kind of creative journaling?

Room

Yeah I finally had a good night of sleep. A complication after removing my wisdom teeth had me in pain day and night in the past week :(. So that's why I haven't been around much lately.. (I even had to let my blog birthday pass, but I plan to have a belated blog birthday give away soon, so stay tuned ;)). I've been listening to podcasts about decluttering. The idea of getting rid of the clutter (in every way) and having room for those things that are worth the space, makes me feel so happy. Can't wait to put it into practice!

Confidence

It's impossible ( I remember trying that as a kid-staring at a plant trying to catch the moment where it happens) to see things grow, but they do. Slow but steady, and than one day...just wait and see!

Tired & Uninspired

Sometimes I am a little ahead of myself..This weekend was filled with people and today I felt really tired and unispired. I try not to be to frustrated about doing so little today, but just accept that I need the time to reconnect with myself a bit.
This figure is showing up a lot in my sketchbook lately. I love her ability to reflect my mood.

I [heart] sketchbooks!

I love love love little books with blank papers (see 'dummie'). It allows me to play, which is in my opinion the most important (and fun) skill for an artist, and maybe even for human beings in general. The last one is especially precious to me, because I'm getting better at the 'playing'-thing. Doing, not thinking (that's the hard part for me) Playing with colours and shapes, quick drawings and ideas and inspirations written everywhere. I'm so excited about realizing them!

And I also started a new one today! Exclusively for colour combinations (first photo).

Work in progress. I like sketches often better than end results, well at least in some way . I also like dough better than cookies. Despite that I can't wait to 'bake' this one.
