Pursuing Peace

If something kinda sorta works for us, it's very unlikely we'll make changes. Even when it's relatively easy and very needed. That's why it's good to come to a point once in a while where you think: I need to make a difference now. Yesterday evening I made some changes in my interior and did some serious decluttering (again :). And although I still have a long way to go, and this may not sound like a big thing, the effect on my mood is huge. New energy and more importantly more peace :)

Smile

'

You know when you're thoughts go places you don't want to go? I had that last night. Sitting in the train this mornig I opened my notebook and read this (third pic) which I wrote last week. How is that for starting a week :) !

P.S. Give away is still open!

Butterflies

Creative people are blessed. Maybe even spoiled. Feeling like being in love most of the time. Butterflies jumping up and down in your stomach. But..butterflies come and go. That's what they do. And when they go -Scared by little things. Anoying things. Like big to-do-lists or physical discomfort or worries- Than I miss them terribly.

I think I saw one this morning. It's a start. I'll just patiently remove the 'scary' stuff and wait for this one to take his friends back with him.

The Best Ingrediënts

Somehow I didn't wake up with the best mood this morning. So I decided to cheer myself up with the best ingrediënts I know: food & art! This salade is the perfect saturday treat, it's inspired by a receipy I found in an old summer magazine: Rocket mixed salade, raspberries, goat cheese, chives, roasted hazelnuts, radish, lemon, sprinkled with walnut oil and raspberry vinegar.
The last three photos I took at the library and are from the photographer Hendrik Kerstens.

P.S.Thank you so much Roos for the stylish blog award!, I'll get back to it :)

Walk of Liberty

Yesterday it was 'Liberation Day' here . May 1945 was the end of world war II in the Netherlands. Freedom. So good to not take it for granted. The stories of my grandparents are still in the back of my mind. To give it a broader meanig the day is also called 'day of freedom'. Being free is not just to 'not live in war. For me it's also being free from expectations, being free to express yourself, being free from worries and so on. So when I felt those expectations and worries pressing on my shoulder yesterday evening, I decided to take a little liberty walk. The sun was shining, the flags were still hanging and I felt.. free.

Celebrating Lightness

I love how the sun makes everything seem lighter. It helps me a lot to put things in persective. It's almost like heaven says: Chill out, it's gonna be okay. So I am celebrating spring today. The lantern were bought at this lovely little shop
My head is also literally lighter: I got a new haircut. I only go a few times a year and it always feels like a big treat!

Tired & Uninspired

Sometimes I am a little ahead of myself..This weekend was filled with people and today I felt really tired and unispired. I try not to be to frustrated about doing so little today, but just accept that I need the time to reconnect with myself a bit.
This figure is showing up a lot in my sketchbook lately. I love her ability to reflect my mood.

You are now leaving your comfortzone

(Acrylic paint, ink & crochet on canvas 20 x 30)
..is the long title of this small painting. This painting experience was the opposite of the day before. Sunday I had a clear image in my mind, a memory I wanted to capture and I knew more or less how I wanted it to look beforehand. Yesterday evening was more like a battle and I remembered why I hate.love. painting.

Lose the blues

Love these colours. Unfortunately tonight feel a bit like the woman on the first picture. (a real antique photo btw). The other one is a detail of a print I bought in New York it didn't quite survive the journey, but that only made it prettier. Now I'm going to lose the blues by watching the movie that says on the cover
'Fear can hold you prisoner, hope can set you free.'
