10.000 hours?

Confession: I am still in my pyjamas (lunch time here)...but that doesn't mean I have been lazy this morning. I started painting at 9.30 this morning, which is rather early for a saturdaymorning if you ask me :) I try to do a semi-realistic painting once in a while to practice my drawing/painting skills.
Whether I like (not haha) the result is not the most important thing, it's more an excercise for my brain muscles. The famous psychologists Ericson said you need round about 10.000 hours of practising for your brain to master something. Well I wouldn't start counting if I were you, but I think the fact that there is scientific reason to believe that 'practice makes perfect' is an encouraging thought. So keep practising whatever it is you like and, most importantly, have fun with it!

This week I saw, no 2

'an enormous amount of pretty junk'
(In a small, surprisingly full thrift shop. And at home while decluttering)

'This week I saw' was organized by Daan & Roos and inspired by Jill's Today I Saw.

Kiki Lamers

One of the most beautiful things me and my sister saw here, was the exhibition 'heads' of Kiki Lamers. I just keep looking at it.

When you can't go around the world

You go where the world comes to you.

Back from a few days in Amsterdam and Utrecht, but I feel like I'm back from a trip around the world! These were taken at the hortus botanicus amsterdam.

I ♥ Green

Spend the afternoon here (it's better in real). Shopping for local products and enjoying fresh tea outside. Simple life at its best.

Corner View: Me

This weeks corner view theme comes from Soisses and is: 'me'. It's making me a bit shy so I'll hide behind these beautiful Poppies :)
Amelia (who's writing a lot of interesting practical things about creativity) invited me to make a list of 30 things I like. I'll combine those today. Can't wait to see your 'me's'!

30 things I like:
The beach, when it’s hot and when it’s cold /Black coffee in the morning/Making the most of every day/Walking on bare feet/Watching cooking programmes/To have my camera with me all the time/Walking through the pouring rain/To realize an image that is in my head/Magazines about house decorating /Buying and making gifts/Making imagery wish lists /Getting haircuts
Learning new things /Wandering around in bookstores/Wandering through foreign supermarkets/Summer evenings outside with friends /Secretly drawing people/
Making little books/Being somewhere where nobody knows me /Finding the exact right word for something/Learning new words in foreign languages/Make, make, making things/
Talking about places where I want to go/Motivating people/Cheese/Reading biographies/Listening to talkshows on the radio while working/Train stations & airports
A bit of craziness/And last but not least a BIG one, where I am thinking about a lot how to achieve that in my life: Freedom.

Sun for lunch. Storm for dinner.
It was spectecular. The sound of the wind, the green light.
Unfortunately it was too dangerous to go outside, but I was tempted...

The peanuts of Charles Schulz are turning 60 today! I've got several books laying around the house. I love the subtle humor and wisdom that is hidden behind the cute characters.

No need to buy an expensive ticket, the tropics came (and have been here for the past weeks actually) here. Last night it even included a tropical storm. My train was the only one that was still going and when I got home I had to sit in the dark because of the thunder (didn't mind it though :). No trace of the nice fresh air this morning. I'll just imagine living in a Frida Kahlo world..
(& now I'm off too find myself something orange for tonight :)

Corner View: Saturday

When I first got my camera two years ago (canon 400 d)I read the whole manual and tried all kind of different options. I still use it every day and love love my camera, but I became quite lazy with the settings, I'm not the most technical person and it just looks to complicated sometimes. Last saturday I began rediscovering my camera..oh the possibilities!I love the monochrome, especially for portraits.

(1. I know nothing about cars except that I love this one 2. graphic building 3,4,5,6. Sister & little nephew, 7 &8. sweet friends)
